Page two of the letter written in blue ink on white paper, describes the writer's journey from Paris, which began on the 13th of July. He hiked to the south-west hoping to get on a train but with no luck. Everything outside Paris was in confusion and the roads were filled with refugees. He also found it difficult to get any food.
Page two of a three page letter written to Maurice Frank from his friend Alf who was stationed in Paris prior to the German invasion in July 1940 during World War II (1939 -1945). In the letter Alf describes his journey from Paris to the South of France, mainly on foot, and the numbers of refugees he saw on the way. He also describes being attacked from the air by the German air force. After twelve days, he arrived at the Spanish frontier and joined a military convoy and was shipped home to England. The letter describes events in France a month after the evacuations at Dunkirk and in the same month (July) as the Battle of Britain offensive began.
