Aberdeen Angus Cattle at Ballindalloch Castle, Moray

The Ballindalloch herd of Aberdeen Angus cattle is believed to be the oldest herd in the world and direct descendant of the native cattle found in the north east area of Scotland.

The Ballindalloch herd derives its origins from the hornless cattle whose existence in the area is believed to go as far back as the 12th century. The two breeds were the Doddies of Angus and the Hummlies from Buchan.

The land at Ballindalloch Estate provides fodder and grazing for the Aberdeen Angus and also seasonal grazing for other local farmers in the area. For visitors to the castle the Aberdeen Angus heard provides an additional attraction.
